PRESENTATION

Alla and Christian HUREAU, we are the new (and happy) owners of this extraordinary place.
Alla is an antique dealer; she has her own company, Antik-France, which restores and sells antiques online.www.antik-france.frShe is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts, holds a Doctorate in Philosophy, and is a piano teacher. Christian, a former industrialist, oversees the restoration and organizes the transport of the antiques; he is now the estate manager.

For several years, we had been looking for a similar place.
After visiting more than 35 castles, we arrived in Picol, and there, it was love at first sight!
A superb 19th century English-style castle, in very good condition, surrounded by a magnificent park, almost invisible, away from the hustle and bustle, but close to the town hall, the church and essential shops.

Our first visit was in October 2021 and we signed in April 2022, so we certainly didn't waste any time!
When we bought this castle, stays had already been booked by English agencies in this castle.
Throughout the summer, we welcomed English and American tourists for their (and our) pleasure.
Given their admiration and satisfaction, we decided to continue and further develop this activity.
Such a unique place, in such an extraordinary setting, deserves to welcome guests.

OUR OBJECTIVES

Regarding the castle and its grounds:

We have already redecorated the castle with authentic 19th-century objects and furniture and will continue to do so.
Our 3 hectares of parkland with century-old trees will be remodeled and supplemented with new species.

For the activity.

Open the castle all year round but in different forms.
Summer rental of the entire castle by the week, with several options.
The rest of the year, in bed and breakfasts with full board for gastronomic and tourist stays.

A very pretty and original little 19th-century château. In excellent condition. The decor and layout are tasteful and perfectly suited to the setting. It offers complete comfort and a warm atmosphere. Everything seems designed to make you feel pampered and immediately at ease. Absolute tranquility. The grounds are also perfectly maintained and very pleasant, with many majestic trees. They exude serenity. If the weather is nice, you could spend hours there with a book, watching for squirrels. The welcome was warm, attentive, and friendly. We learned a great deal about the château's history and the restoration of the antiques. There are, of course, many in the château, chosen to complement the setting. We also thoroughly enjoyed dinner and breakfast. A place worth discovering!

Chateau Picol was the perfect spot for doing just that. After 8+ hours of driving Chateau Picol was a the kind of place where you ca retreat, rest, have a nice dinner and a comforting night of sleep, all with the personalized care of Christian and his wife. Should we have to make the same journey again in the future, we have found our spot to recharge, and keep going.

The Park is a Traum, the Pool and the Super Terrace, and all of them are very pleasant, so they also have a lot of fun. Das Haus war sehr sauber, die Zimmer liebevoll eingerichtet, und die Küche umfangreich ausgestattet. Auch für Kleinkinder and Babies stand alles zur Verfügung. Christian is a toller Gastgeber and super sympathisch. Wir kommen gern wieder!

The pool is lovely, very well maintained and perfect for a family with small children. We very much sat on the terrace enjoying the cool of the evening. We had 3 generations of family, using all the large bedrooms, benefitting from all having en-suite facilities. Only negatives were a bad mattress with ill-fitting sheet in furthest room on 1st floor; despite the large, beautifully kept and interesting fauna and grounds, no space for sporting activities (other than the excellent pool and table-tennis table); and finally the documentation saying we could arrive at 4pm, whereas the owners believe 5pm. Christian, the owner, was always very helpful eg.providing some bikes for the trips into the local town (2km) for bread and bars etc. May be useful to know there were two excellent coffee machines, one Melitta for filter, the other a Senseo for pads. And one activity to recommend: an unusual triathlon of cycling, wine tasting and kayaking around Chinon. In summary, I would highly recommend.
